This procedure applies to Suzuki Alto (F10DN) and Suzuki Grand Vitara (G16B) models equipped with a 12V 70A alternator. It includes safety specifications, removal, installation, torque values, belt adjustment, and precautions. It can be directly used in repair work orders and technical documents.
1. Pre‑Installation Preparation (Safety + Tools + Inspection)
1.1 Safety Operation Specifications (Mandatory)
Park the vehicle on level, solid ground. Turn off the engine, apply the parking brake, place automatic transmission in P and manual transmission in N. Chock the wheels and support the vehicle securely with safety stands. Never rely only on a jack.

Mounting bracket / engine mounting surface: flat, clean, free of oil, rust, or deformation.
Drive belt: no cracks, aging, or oil contamination; pulley grooves free of foreign matter.
Wiring harness: B+ main power cable undamaged, wire size meeting OEM standards; control plug with no terminal backout or oxidation.
2. Removal of Old Alternator (Skip if already removed)
Mark belt routing: Use a marker to mark the belt path and take photos for reference to avoid incorrect installation.
Loosen the belt: Use the belt tensioner tool to release the tensioner and remove the belt.
Disconnect electrical connections: Unplug the excitation/control connector (grasp the plug, do not pull the wire); loosen the B+ main power nut, remove the cable and insulate it; disconnect the ground cable and insulate.
Remove mounting bolts: The alternator is usually secured to the bracket with 2–3 M8/M10 bolts. Loosen bolts gradually in diagonal order.
Remove the old alternator: Support the alternator with both hands (approx. 3–5 kg), take it out slowly to avoid collision with the mounting surface and surrounding components.
Clean the mounting area: Remove oil and metal chips from the mounting surface and threaded holes; check thread integrity.
3. Installation of New Alternator (Core Steps)
Step 1: Positioning and Pre‑Tightening
Place the new alternator smoothly into the mounting position, align the bolt holes, and ensure the alternator fits tightly against the bracket with no gaps.
Install mounting bolts and turn them 3–4 full turns by hand to confirm aligned threads with no misalignment. Do not fully tighten yet.
Step 2: Torque Tightening (Suzuki OEM Standard)
Tighten mounting bolts in diagonal sequence, in 2–3 stages to 25–30 N·m (general value for F10DN/G16B).
Do not exceed the torque limit to avoid bolt breakage or housing cracking. Insufficient torque will cause loosening, abnormal noise, and unstable charging.
Step 3: Electrical Connection (Strict Sequence)
First connect the ground cable: install the ground terminal, tighten the nut to 8–10 N·m to ensure a reliable ground.
Next connect the control/excitation plug: push fully into place and confirm secure locking with no slack.
Finally connect the B+ main power cable: clean the terminal contact surface, install the cable nut and tighten to 12–15 N·m. Insulate the B+ terminal with tape or a protective cap to prevent short circuits.
Wire routing: Keep all wiring away from the exhaust pipe and moving parts, secure firmly to prevent abrasion and short circuits.
Step 4: Belt Installation and Adjustment
Install the belt according to the marked routing. Use the tensioner tool to adjust tension; belt deflection: 10–12 mm (press the middle of the belt).
Rotate the crankshaft manually 2–4 times, check that the belt runs properly with no misalignment or seizure. Readjust tension to the standard value if needed.
4. Power Restoration and Function Testing
Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is tight.
Power-on check: Turn the ignition switch to ON; the charging warning light on the dashboard should illuminate with no abnormal warnings.
Start test: Start the engine; the charging warning light should turn off immediately. The alternator should run smoothly with no abnormal noise or vibration.
Voltage testing (multimeter):
Visual inspection: No oil leakage, overheating, or unusual odors; no loose bolts; normal belt operation.
Troubleshooting: If the charging light remains on, voltage is abnormal, or there is noise, shut off the engine immediately and check connections, torque, belt, and alternator compatibility.
