• Tools: Torque wrench (N·m), socket / open-end wrench, belt tension gauge, marker pen, cleaning cloth, insulated gloves

• Spare Parts: New alternator (14V, matched to Perkins / Revo engine models such as 1103/1104 series), OEM-specification belt, bolts / washers (OEM parts only, no mixing of non-OEM fasteners), terminal nuts (OEM torque values)

Inspection

• Check alternator bearings for no play / abnormal noise, rotor for no rubbing, and terminals for no oxidation.

• Check belt for no cracks / aging / oil contamination.

2. Standard Installation Procedure

Step 1 Alternator Body Alignment and Pre-Tightening

1. Place the alternator (2) securely into the engine mounting bracket position, aligning the mounting holes with the adjustment bracket holes.

2. Install mounting bolts / nuts (1) and tighten by hand (no torque applied yet). Install the tension adjustment bolt (8), threading it through the adjustment bracket and alternator adjustment hole, and tighten by hand (do not lock).

Step 2 Belt Installation and Tension Calibration (Critical)

1. Following the OEM belt routing, fit the V-belt / poly-V belt onto the crankshaft pulley → alternator pulley → idler pulley (if equipped), ensuring the belt is fully seated in the grooves and not twisted.

2. Tension Adjustment: Pry the alternator outward to tension the belt, then tighten the tension adjustment bolt (8). Use a belt tension gauge to calibrate to the OEM Belt Tension Chart.

• Example for 1103 series: New belt tension ≈ 600–700 N; Used belt tension ≈ 500–600 N (refer to the engine manual for exact values).

3. Once tension is achieved, lock the tension adjustment bolt (8). Press the belt at the midpoint of its span (1/2 span) and verify deflection meets OEM requirements:

• Typically: New belt: 10–15 mm per 100 N; Used belt: 15–20 mm per 100 N.

Step 3 Final Tightening of Mounting Bolts (Torque Compliance)

• Mounting bolts (1): Tighten in a diagonal sequence to 44 N·m (32 lb·ft) (OEM value for 1103/1104 series).

• Recheck: Alternator has no movement, belt runs true without misalignment, and adjustment mechanism has no interference.

Step 4 Electrical Connection (Error Prevention + Anti-Loosening)

• Field wire (F / excitation), charge indicator wire (L), neutral wire (N, if equipped), main output wire (B+ / 14V output)

• Ground wire (GND/5): Connect to the dedicated alternator ground stud first; do not rely solely on the mounting bracket (to avoid poor contact).

Terminal Nut Torque

• B+ terminal: 12–15 N·m

• Small signal terminals (F/L/N): 6–8 N·m

  Do not over-tighten, as this may cause thread stripping / terminal breakage.

Insulation and Routing

Step 5 Power-On Test and Functional Verification

1. Reconnect the main battery switch / negative terminal (-). Clear any fault codes (if applicable).

2. No-Load Test: Start the engine, run from idle to 1500 rpm. Measure voltage at the B+ terminal with a multimeter:

• 14.0–14.5V (standard output for 14V alternator), voltage must be stable with no fluctuations.

3. Load Test: With headlights / air conditioning / fans turned on, voltage remains 13.8–14.5V with no significant drop. Check for no belt slippage, no abnormal noise / overheating of the alternator.

4. Post-Shutdown Recheck: Inspect bolts, belt, and wiring for looseness; check for no oil leaks / electrical leakage / unusual odors.
