Installation Method of 350×220×375mm Clutch Pressure Plate
I. Pre-installation Preparation
Tool and Material Preparation
Special tools: Torque wrench (range covering 200–500N·m, suitable for heavy-duty vehicle pressure plate bolts), clutch centering tool (mandrel, matching the size of the transmission input shaft), cross socket wrench, crowbar, cleaning cloths.
Consumables: High-temperature-resistant thread locker (e.g. Loctite 243), clutch release bearing grease (high-temperature lithium-based grease), anhydrous ethanol or special cleaning agent.
Parts Inspection and Cleaning
Inspect the pressure plate: Ensure the diaphragm spring is free of deformation and cracks; the friction surface of the pressure plate has no ablation, grooves or warpage (flatness error ≤0.2mm); the pressure plate drive claws/positioning pins are intact.
Inspect the flywheel: The flywheel friction surface must be clean without oil stains and rust, with a flatness error ≤0.15mm; check that the flywheel bolt holes are not stripped.
Cleaning process: Clean the friction surfaces of the pressure plate and flywheel with anhydrous ethanol. After air-drying, no oil contamination is allowed. Inspect the clutch driven disc (friction plate) for looseness and ablation; ensure the spline fits smoothly with the transmission input shaft.
II. Step-by-step Installation Procedure
Alignment of Driven Disc and Pressure Plate
Secure the flywheel (to prevent rotation), then place the clutch driven disc (friction plate) at the center of the flywheel.
Insert the clutch centering tool through the spline hole of the driven disc, with one end supported in the flywheel center bearing hole to ensure coaxiality between the driven disc and the flywheel.
Fit the 350×220×375mm pressure plate over the outside of the driven disc, align the mounting bolt holes of the pressure plate with those of the flywheel, and ensure the pressure plate drive claws are properly engaged with the flywheel positioning grooves.
Tightening of Pressure Plate Bolts
Apply a small amount of high-temperature-resistant thread locker to the threads of the pressure plate mounting bolts to prevent bolt loosening.
Adopt the crisscross symmetrical tightening method (e.g. sequence 1-5-3-7-2-6-4-8, adjust according to the number of bolts), and tighten the bolts in three stages:
Stage 1: Pre-tighten to 50% of the standard torque (reference torque for heavy-duty vehicle pressure plate bolts: 200–300N·m, refer to the vehicle maintenance manual for exact values).
Stage 2: Pre-tighten to 80% of the standard torque.
Stage 3: Tighten to the full standard torque to ensure uniform force distribution on all bolts.
After tightening, check that the friction surface of the pressure plate fits evenly with the driven disc without gaps.
Removal of Centering Tool and Subsequent Assembly
After confirming that all pressure plate bolts are fully tightened, slowly pull out the clutch centering tool.
Install the clutch release bearing, apply high-temperature grease to the release bearing guide sleeve; install the clutch release fork and adjust the release fork stroke to the standard range (refer to the vehicle maintenance manual).
Hoist the transmission and smoothly insert the input shaft into the spline hole of the driven disc to avoid damaging the splines or the pressure plate diaphragm spring due to impact.
Installation Precautions for 350×220×375mm Clutch Pressure Plate
1.Cleanliness Control
The friction surfaces of the pressure plate, driven disc and flywheel must be thoroughly cleaned with anhydrous ethanol. Contamination with oil, grease or iron filings is strictly prohibited, otherwise it will directly cause clutch slipping and engagement jitter faults.
Installers shall wear clean gloves during operation and are not allowed to touch the friction surfaces directly with hands. The disassembled parts shall be placed on a clean workbench to avoid adhesion of dust and impurities.
2.Core Alignment Requirements
A clutch centering tool matching the specification of the transmission input shaft must be used to ensure the coaxiality of the driven disc and the flywheel. Forcible installation without a centering tool is strictly prohibited, otherwise the transmission input shaft cannot be inserted, or the pressure plate diaphragm spring will be subjected to uneven force.
The drive claws of the pressure plate shall be accurately engaged with the positioning grooves of the flywheel. If there is a misalignment, do not knock the pressure plate for forced alignment, so as to prevent deformation of the diaphragm spring and fracture of the drive claws.
3.Bolt Tightening Specifications
High-temperature-resistant thread locker (e.g. Loctite 243) shall be applied to the bolt threads. Ordinary grease is prohibited as a substitute to prevent bolt loosening during vehicle operation.
Strictly implement the crisscross symmetrical three-stage tightening process. The final torque shall comply with the requirements of the maintenance manual of the corresponding vehicle model (the bolt torque for this specification of pressure plate on heavy-duty vehicles is usually 200-300N·m). One-time tightening or torque exceeding/insufficient the standard is forbidden.
After tightening, recheck the torque of all bolts to confirm that there is no omission or thread slipping.
4.Parts Matching and Inspection
Before installation, recheck the pressure plate dimensions (350×220×375mm) to confirm that it is fully matched with the flywheel, driven disc and transmission input shaft. Mixing clutch parts of different specifications is prohibited.
Inspection of the diaphragm spring: Press each release finger of the spring with a special tool. The hand feel shall be uniform without jamming or deformation. Replace the pressure plate if the end face wear of the release finger exceeds 0.5mm.
Inspection of flywheel flatness: If the flatness error exceeds 0.15mm, grinding repair or replacement shall be carried out, otherwise it will lead to unsmooth clutch engagement.

Corresponding Explanation of Key Content and References
- Cleanliness and Parts InspectionThe cleaning requirements are derived from the general provision of "parts cleaning and no oil contamination before installation" in GB 50231-2009. The flatness inspection standards for pressure plate and flywheel, as well as the inspection standards for diaphragm spring, refer to the special technical indicators in QC/T 25-2014 and OEM maintenance manuals.
- Centering and PositioningThe requirement for using clutch centering tool is based on the general industry process for heavy-duty vehicle clutch assembly, which ensures the coaxiality of driven disc and flywheel and avoids difficulty in inserting the transmission input shaft.
